Have any of you ever tried one of those Trasko bypass oil filters? They filter down to like 1 or 2 microns. I used to have one of these filters back in 2003. I remember checking the dipstick after having 7,000+ miles and the oil on it still looked like new. You change the filter every 10,000 miles. It cleans the oil so well that you almost never have to drain the oil. The drawback is that it's sort of messy every time you change the oil filter because you have to replace a toilet-paper style kind of oil filter. So basically 10 filter changes for every 100,000 miles of driving. The filter elements were not that expensive. So it keeps overall maintenance dirt cheap over the life of the vehicle.
